| | First of all, if you really want to get around Atlanta, you will need a car.
Atlanta is not a true "public transportation" city. There are plenty of
taxicabs at the airport and downtown, but not in the outer areas. So, if
you are staying downtown or in the mid-town area, you will not have a problem
getting a cab to and from Buckhead and Virginia Highland. But if you are
staying, or going to visit, anywhere else (such as Marietta, the Perimeter Mall
area, Norcross, Decatur, or the Fulton Industrial Park area), I recommend having
a car.
You can take MARTA
which is the bus and subway system. A MARTA train runs from the airport into
the downtown area.
When you hit town, pick up a copy of Creative
Loafing. It has all the dates and
times for the clubs, the music scene and the latest happenings. For
information about happenings in the gay community, pick up Southern Voice. Also check out Atlanta
Entertainment or Access Atlanta
on the web for a listing of things to do. And for a listing of
relevant Atlanta web sites, see Atlanta.

Downtown
Most trade shows happen at the Georgia World
Congress Center, located at 285 International Blvd. The Philips Arena,
the Georgia Dome, Centennial Olympic Park and The
Tabernacle (music venue and event facility) are adjacent to the GWCC.
There is not much in the way of clubs, bars, or restaurants in the immediate
area, unless you go four blocks to the corner of International Blvd. and
Peachtree Street where you will find The Hard Rock Cafe.
